Memo

TO: Dr. Vincent Boudreau, President of City College

FROM: Osvaldo Junior Tejada, Student At City College

SUBJECT: Suggestions For The Improvement Of Buildings On Campus

Category 1: Escalators

During these first five weeks of going in person for classes I have noticed a sizable issue. Most of the escalators in the North Academic Center building were not working. This made me frustrated almost every day because I have two classes that are on the 6th floor and I always make it to class exhausted. This is a problem for me because I wake up at 6:50am in order to take the train, and I have to walk up a long hill to get to the college building. This usually results in me being tired when I enter my first class which is on the 6th floor. It affects my ability to listen to my lecture class when I’m on the verge of passing out on my desk. February 28, 2022 was the only day I saw that all the escalators were working which resulted in a huge improvement in my attention span for my first class.

Category 2: The Look of the College

Everyday I go to college I don’t really get the atmosphere that I’m in college. To me, the scenery of the college seems like a high school. For example, one of the buildings, Shepard Hall, looks out-dated and projects a bad image of City College. The inside of the building looks old and seems more like a high school because of the dull colors and poor lighting. The atmosphere of being in a college to me is to have everything advanced, like technology, bright colors and things that aren’t usually in a high school.

The way I would go about fixing these issues is by revamping the college into a modern look, like removing all chalkboards with power point projectors and adding more escalators in Shepard Hall and the rest of the buildings. This would give off a different atmosphere of a college than a high school because there’s more technology being used.

Please take these issues into consideration for students to enjoy and make their life easier at City College. Thank you for being our president.

Sincerely,

Osvaldo Junior Tejada
